Bill Gates read at least 1-2 book in a week. And all of the successful leaders READ. Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, Tony Robbins, even Tun Dr Mahathir and many more other powerful people. But how did they do it? Is there a secret to fast reading? It took me at least a month to finish reading one book, but how can these people read it in one week?
The secret to that is training. They trained themselves to speed reading.
Leaders are Readers
A person who reads one book a week or 52 books a year have a huge advantage over people who don't! And if you're not reading these books, then you don't have advantage over those leaders.
Here are just few steps to go through a book a week:
1. Keep a BOOK LIST
Keep an active book list. And what do I mean by that is that every body has a to-do list.
That’s great. But try having a to-read list! That way, you can set your target on how many books you want to read in a month.
That way, every time that someone recommend a book for you to read, jot it down on your to-read list. Keep a book list about things you are excited about reading!
2. Test your reading SPEED
One of the simplest ways to do it, is to:
1.Pick up a book
2.Putting up your phone for 60 second
3.Time yourself reading 60 seconds
4.Count the number of lines that you’ve read in these 60 seconds
And that gives you the lines per minute
Now if you wanted to test your reading speed it’s done in words per minute like they do typing speed. Typing speed usually use CPM or "characters per minute". However when reading, maybe you could use LPM or "lines per minute".
Then you can count the number of words in the average line and you can average it out a little bit. Personally, I recorded 24 lines (334 words) per minute.
Most books, it’s about 10 words per line. You’ll find that that number comes to approximately 200-250 words per minute.
3. Find out the AVERAGE
The minimum number of words in books according to amazon is approximately 64,000 words. That means if you’re reading 200 words per minute, it takes about 320 minutes to finish a book, cover to cover. If you break that down divided by 7 that’s approximately 45 minutes of reading a day
That you could finish a book in average length about 64,000 words.
4. Schedule your reading
Because if you don’t schedule it it’s not real. If you just talk about it it’s not gonna happen. You have to schedule it about a time where you know you could execute on it. Because just talking about it is not gonna make a difference.
I would treat that time as time of yours.
It’s your time.
It’s your time with your boss.
It’s your time with an investor!
It’s a very important time that you would not cancel.
Because it’s your time with your self.
45 Minutes a day, 1 Book a week, 52 Books a year? - Challenge accepted.
awesome sharing , love it
